Person-Centered Adaptations

In order to truly understand how people will use and perceive robots, it is important to investigate how their personal qualities and abilities may impact interactions. One example of the necessity of this work is that women are more comfortable with robots than men, as shown by both the distance at which they interact and their reported stress in interactions; this means that women are more likely to approach a robot beyond a safe distance, and the robot would likely need to plan on this difference. Additional factors in compliance with autonomy are spatial awareness, locus of control, and immersive tendencies which are planned for investigation in the domain-specific investigations that are planned in the near future.
